The much-anticipated Musinguzi Enock Christmas Cup tournament reached its grand finale on Christmas Day, drawing hundreds of fans to Kakamba Playground in Kibanda Parish, Kamwezi Sub County. The tournament, which showcased teams from all 12 villages in Kibanda Parish, concluded with an intense final match between Rushojwa and Kakanyoro.
After a goalless draw during regular play, the game was decided by a nail-biting penalty shootout. Rushojwa Cell triumphed, clinching the trophy with a 4-3 victory over Kakanyoro Cell.
Rukiga District Woman MP, Hon. Kamusiime Caroline Muhwezi, graced the occasion as the chief guest. She commended Mr. Musinguzi Enock, the tournament organizer, for his dedication to nurturing talent and promoting physical fitness among the youth. Hon. Kamusiime encouraged young people to actively engage in sports, steering clear of unproductive habits like gambling and excessive alcohol consumption.
“Sports have a promising future. Parents should wholeheartedly support their children involved in sporting activities,” Hon. Kamusiime stated.
As part of her contribution to the event, she donated complete jersey sets and medals to every player from the 12 participating teams.
Other dignitaries, including Rukiga District LC5 Chairperson Robert Mbabazi Kakwerere and Kamwezi Sub County LC3 Chairperson Teddyson Niwagaba, lauded Hon. Kamusiime for her development initiatives in the sub-county. They emphasized the significance of sports as a pathway to a brighter future for the youth and the country.
Mr. Musinguzi Enock, the visionary behind the tournament, urged local leaders to prioritize the development of sports in the district. His call was echoed by Rukiga District parliamentary hopeful Magezi Alex Kanunga, who also attended the event to support the young athletes.
