Rwagana Cell in Southern Division, Kabale Municipality, emerged victorious in the Karubanda Ward Sports Tournament yesterday Friday, defeating Kahama Runyanjoka 2-0 in a penalty shootout.
The one-day tournament, organized by Karubanda Ward , brought together all 10 villages that make up Karubanda Ward in Southern Division, Kabale Municipality. The event took place at St. Paul’s Seminary Pitch.
Speaking as chief guest, Sheikh Kassim Kamugisha, Wakiso District Deputy Resident District Commissioner who is the Kabale Municipality National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer, highlighted the challenges that sportsmen and women faced in the past, noting that few people were willing to support them.
Kamugisha urged players to avoid behaviours that could harm their football careers and emphasized the importance of training to remain fit and achieve greater success.
Kamugisha further encouraged the youth and the general public to remain united and cooperative within their communities.
He praised the Karubanda Ward legends for initiating programs aimed at promoting youth talent and fostering sportsmanship.
Kabale District Deputy Speaker and Southern Division LCV Councillor, Hon. Ronald Eyan Mugisha, emphasized that success is a result of commitment, hard work, and focus. Mugisha highlighted the financial benefits Uganda has reaped from its successful sports personalities who have excelled locally and internationally.
At the same ceremony, Sheikh Kasim Kamugisha officially launched the Kabale Municipality NRM Liberation Gala scheduled for January 26, 2025, which will take place at Kabale Main Stadium. He called upon the Karubanda legends and all wards in the municipality to actively participate in the event.
The tournament, which featured participation from all the villages in Karubanda Ward, concluded with Rwagana defeating Kahama-Runyanjoka 2-0 in a tense penalty shootout. The champions, Rwagana, were awarded a bull, a trophy, medals, and UGX 500,000. The runners-up, Kahama-Runyanjoka, received a goat and medals. All semi-finalist teams were presented with football jerseys and footballs as a token of appreciation.
The tournament served as a unifying event for Karubanda Ward, highlighting the importance of sports in nurturing talent and fostering community spirit.
