Kurodina Nyirandajijimana, a 33-year-old Rwandan national, is grappling with a dire situation in Rukungiri town following a fallout with her Ugandan husband. Nyirandajijimana, a mother of two, finds herself homeless and struggling to obtain basic necessities after being evicted from her marital home.
The eviction came after a shocking revelation: her husband discovered that she had become pregnant by another man in Mbarara. This discovery led to her immediate expulsion from the home they shared in Mayanga. Left without shelter, Nyirandajijimana and her children are now living on the verandas of local residences, dependent on the kindness of strangers for food.
Nyirandajijimana’s ordeal began four years ago when she separated from her Rwandan husband and returned to her ancestral home. However, her stay there was short-lived due to harassment by her siblings, prompting her to seek refuge in Uganda. Her initial hope for a better life has since crumbled, leaving her in a precarious situation in Rukungiri.
Desperate for stability, Nyirandajijimana is searching for a safe place to stay with her children, which would enable her to undertake casual labor. She aims to earn enough money to return to Rwanda, but so far, her efforts have been fruitless.
Nyirandajijimana’s story has drawn sympathy from local residents, many of whom have offered temporary assistance. However, a permanent solution remains elusive as she continues to navigate the challenges of displacement and poverty.
With tears in her eyes, Nyirandajijimana shared, “I never imagined finding myself in such a situation. My only hope is to find shelter and work so that I can provide for my children and eventually make my way back to Rwanda.”
