Siniya League Triumphs in the Tuuze Oweitu Omuka Football GALA

Kigezi College Butobere, popularly known as Siniya, clinched victory in the inaugural edition of the Tuuze Oweitu Omuka Football GALA held today December 28, 2024 at Kabale Main Stadium. The event, themed “Celebrating Our Former Schools,” brought together alumni from six prominent schools in the greater Kabale region for a spirited battle on the field.

Participating schools included Kigezi College Butobere (Siniya League), Kigezi High School (KHOSA League), St. Mary’s College Kabale (SMACO League), Kabale Trinity College (KATRICO League), Kabale Secondary School (KABSCO Old Students), and St. Paul’s Seminary Rushoroza (SPOBA). After a series of intense matches, Siniya League emerged as champions, with KHOSA League finishing as runners-up.

Victor Atuhaire, Chairperson of the Organizing Committee, explained the purpose of the event:

“The Tuuze Oweitu Omuka Football GALA is designed to unite alumni from schools in greater Kabale through soccer while celebrating their shared history. This initiative allows those unable to participate in the annual Kampala leagues to experience the same camaraderie and competition closer to home.”

Atuhaire expressed optimism that the number of participating schools would grow in future editions, further strengthening the initiative.

Joshua Taremwe, the Publicity Secretary of Kabale Trinity College League, lauded the event as a unique platform for old students to reconnect and build networks:

“This GALA not only fosters friendships but also creates economic and social opportunities for participants. Although the turnout was modest this year, we anticipate greater participation in subsequent editions.”

Elia Kabagambe, Captain of the Siniya League, highlighted the importance of the GALA in uniting former students during the festive season. He noted that such gatherings also provide a forum to discuss strategies for supporting and developing their alma maters.

The event’s guest of honor, Brian Zatwoshaho, a parliamentary aspirant for Kabale Municipality, encouraged participants to maintain unity for the growth of soccer in Kabale. He pledged to revitalize the sport in the municipality, emphasizing its potential to bring communities together.

The Tuuze Oweitu Omuka Football GALA concluded with celebrations of Siniya League’s hard-fought victory, marking the beginning of what promises to be an exciting annual tradition.
