St. Ignatius University Inaugurated: New Chancellor Installed as Leaders Emphasize Education and Innovation

St. Ignatius University marked a significant milestone today with its official inauguration, coinciding with the installation of its first Chancellor, the Kabale Diocesan Bishop, Callist Rubaramira. The newly established institution, founded by the Catholic Church under the Kabale Diocese, opened its doors earlier this year and is set to become a beacon of education and innovation in the Kigezi region.

The inauguration ceremony, held at the university grounds in the Southern Division of Kabale Municipality, Kabale District, was graced by prominent figures from various sectors. The Minister of Tourism, Wildlife, and Antiquities, who represented Uganda’s Vice President, Maj (Rtd) Jesca Alupo, presided over the event.

In a letter delivered by the minister, Vice President Maj (Rtd) Jesca Alupo pledged unwavering support for higher education institutions, recognizing their crucial role in national development. She urged St. Ignatius University to prioritize innovation and advancement to meet societal needs, and to explore opportunities that would benefit both the institution and its stakeholders.

Ndorwa West parliamentary hopeful, Dr. Hillary Bakamwesiga Mbona, also spoke at the event, urging parents and guardians to prioritize the education of their children, describing it as the most valuable gift one can give. “By enriching their minds, children will be better equipped to achieve things on their own,” Dr. Bakamwesiga remarked.

He expressed optimism that St. Ignatius University would play a crucial role in combating poverty in the Kigezi region by offering hands-on courses that enable students to become job creators rather than job seekers. He also emphasized the importance of discipline, hard work, and competitiveness among students to ensure their success and a bright future.

In addition to the installation of the Chancellor, the ceremony also saw the appointment of Associate Professor Fr. Maximilliano Ngabirano as the Vice Chancellor of the university.
