Hon. Prossy Akampulira Mbabazi, the Rubanda District Woman MP and Commissioner of Parliament, has called for an end to the politicization aimed at hindering development efforts in Rubanda. She urged such individuals to prioritize the well-being of the community, emphasizing that those who continue to sabotage progress will ultimately fail in their efforts.

Hon. Akampulira has been making significant strides in the fight against poverty through her Prosperous Women Rubanda (PWR) initiative. Launched last year, this UGX 700 million project aims to foster a saving culture, combat poverty, and increase household income at the village level across the district.

The PWR initiative has already made substantial progress in several villages, with the goal of disbursing UGX 300,000 to each of the 480 village groups in Rubanda. This effort is not just about financial support; it includes equipping community members with essential resource management skills, enhancing financial literacy, and promoting self-sufficiency. She revealed that at least half of these villages have so far been covered, with the remaining villages to follow.

Hon. Akampulira emphasizes unity among families and communities as a crucial factor in eradicating household poverty. She highlights the importance of cooperation and togetherness, showing how pooling resources, sharing knowledge, and supporting each other can elevate people from poverty and pave the way for a more prosperous future in the region.

“By working together and supporting each other, we can achieve great things. The PWR initiative is about more than just money; it’s about empowering our communities with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive,” Hon. Akampurira said.

In Bufundi Sub-County, the PWR initiative has made a notable impact, particularly among women. The program has provided them with opportunities to start small businesses, initiate piggery projects, improve their homes, and invest in their children’s education. Many women have reported a significant improvement in their quality of life since joining the initiative.

Evans Ninsiima, the Chairperson of the Bushara PWR group and a resident of Bufundi, shared her experience: “Before the PWR initiative, many women in our community struggled to save and invest. Now, we have access to financial resources and training that have transformed our lives. We can now support our families better and contribute to the community’s development.”

Miriam Tumusime, Chairperson of the Kagunga Cell PWR group, also said that the initiative has fostered a sense of solidarity among the women, encouraging them to form savings groups and support each other’s ventures. She added that this collective effort has not only improved their economic situation but also strengthened community bonds.

Patience Akankwasa, the Chairperson of the Bugandaro Bachara Tukwatanise PWR group, highlighted how they have improved their saving culture and doubled their savings by lending members money for developmental purposes. “Our saving culture has greatly improved, and we have managed to double our savings by providing loans to our members for developmental projects,” Akankwasa said.

Women in Bufundi have also managed to pay for their children’s school fees and other requirements, thanks to the financial support and training provided by the PWR initiative. “We can now afford to pay for our children’s school fees and other necessities. This has brought a great sense of relief and hope for a better future,” remarked Agnes Oshabahebwe, Chairperson of the Kibaare Cell PWR group.

As the PWR initiative continues to expand, Hon. Akampurira remains committed to her vision of a prosperous Rubanda District. She calls on all residents to embrace the program and work together towards a brighter future.

“We have seen what we can achieve when we come together. Let’s continue to support each other and build a stronger, more prosperous Rubanda for future generations,” she urged.

The success stories emerging from the PWR initiative are a testament to the power of unity, financial literacy, and community support in the fight against poverty. With continued efforts and collaboration, the dream of a poverty-free Rubanda District is within reach.
