Police in Rubanda District have arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of 20-year-old Joseph Tibandeke, a porter and resident of Kasalaga Cell, Zigoti Sub-county, Mityana District.
ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, identified the suspects as Kakande Ibra, a 20-year-old mason and resident of Kasalaga Cell, Zigoti Sub-county, Mityana District, and Amanyire Branson, a 17-year-old porter and resident of Rubanga Cell, Nyabikungu Parish, Kinoni Sub-county, Mbarara District.
Maate added that on August 18, 2024, at around 9 p.m., the deceased, along with the two suspects and other workers, left the site at Bushura Cell and went to Hamuhambo Trading Centre for a social evening. However, around midnight, the three got into a quarrel with unidentified locals, leading to a fight. The group managed to escape to their site, but Joseph, the deceased, did not make it back.
Apparently, Amanyire and Kakande Ibra first went to a nearby clinic for first aid. On their way back, they met a boda boda rider who informed them that a man was being beaten on the road. They went to the scene and found the victim, who was still alive but in critical condition.
Subsequently, the police at Bunyonyi were notified by the people at the scene, and the victim was taken to Rugarama Hospital, where he died upon arrival and the case of murder was registered at Bunyonyi Police Post and later transferred to Rubanda CPS under CRB 331/2024.
Maate informed our reporter that a homicide team was dispatched to Rugarama Hospital Mortuary, where a postmortem was conducted by the team which proceeded to Hamuhambo Trading Centre, where the crime scene was visited and documented. Witness statements were recorded, and the two suspects were arrested to aid the investigation.
Maate also confirmed that inquiries into the matter are ongoing, with the aim of bringing the culprits to court to answer the charges accordingly.
