Vidullanka Hands Over New Classrooms to Kahondo Primary School, Kabale District.

Vidullanka, a Sri Lankan company operating in Uganda through the Muvunmbe Small Hydro Power project, today officially handed over a newly constructed two-classroom block and an office to Kahondo Primary School in Ndorwa East, Kabale District. The project, valued at $16,000 (approximately UGX 60.8 million), is aimed at improving the learning environment for local students.

During the handover ceremony, Byaruhanga Elias, the head teacher of Kahondo Primary School, expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the much-needed support. He highlighted the dire state of the previous classrooms, which had uneven walls, dusty floors, and leaking roofs, creating a poor learning atmosphere for the students.

“These new classrooms will significantly enhance the learning conditions, allowing our students to sit and study in a more comfortable and conducive environment. We are incredibly grateful to the Muvunmbe Small Hydro Power project for their timely intervention,” Byaruhanga said.

He also committed to maintaining the new facilities to ensure their longevity and effectiveness in serving the school’s 656 learners.

Meanwhile, Mutungi Onesmus, the LC3 Chairperson of Maziba Sub-County, applauded the initiative but voiced concerns about the lack of electricity in some parts of Maziba, despite the presence of the hydro power plant in the region.

“It’s quite challenging that while we have a hydro power source nearby, many areas like Kavu and parts of Maziba Sub-County still remain without electricity. We are ready to provide land for the installation of power poles, and we hope Muvunmbe Hydro can work with UMEME to address this issue,” Mutungi said.

In response, Mr. Bruce Rwakaryoto, representing Muvunmbe Small Hydro Power project, explained that while their mandate is limited to power generation, they are committed to advocating for electricity distribution in the community.

“We only handle power generation, but we will continue engaging with UMEME to ensure electricity reaches more areas in the community,” Rwakaryoto stated.

Kahondo Primary School, a Catholic institution supported by the Government of Uganda through the Ministry of Education and Sports, is expected to see a significant boost in student morale and performance following this development.
