The First Vice Chairman of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), Al-Hajji Moses Kigongo, has cautioned party leaders in the districts against engaging in intrigue and divisive politics as the party approaches its primaries.
Kigongo issued the warning while addressing NRM District Executive Committee members from the Kigezi region at Rushoroza Pastoral Center in Kabale Municipality on Thursday. He was the Chief Guest at the event, which also included the commissioning of data clerks who spent three weeks digitizing information from the region’s yellow books.
In his address, Kigongo expressed concern over persistent challenges faced by the party, particularly in districts where leaders have allegedly undermined official flag bearers by supporting opposition or independent candidates. He emphasized that such actions, driven by personal interests, foster division among NRM supporters.
Kigongo also urged party leaders to rely on the officially registered NRM supporters when conducting elections, noting discrepancies in voter numbers at some polling stations. “It’s unfortunate that we have cases where the number of voters surpasses the registered supporters. This undermines the credibility of our elections,” Kigongo said. He further warned against sectarian politics, which he noted has increasingly affected the Kigezi region.

Speaking at the same event, NRM Deputy National Treasurer Hon. Jacqueline Kyatuheire highlighted the party’s adoption of a digital system to manage voter information. She expressed optimism that this initiative would ensure accurate data and minimize voter malpractice.
“The digital system will provide clarity and eliminate irregularities, enabling the party to strengthen its credibility and maintain trust among its supporters,” Kyatuheire noted.
