The Bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi, Rt Rev Gaddie Akanjuna, has implored Christians to shun evil acts and turn to God for eternal life.
He made this call today during the confirmation service at St. Andrew’s Buhumba Church of Uganda, under St. Peter’s Deanery in Rugarama, Kitumba Subcounty, Kabale District, where 56 individuals were confirmed into the Anglican faith.
In his sermon derived from Jacob 1:12, Bishop Akanjuna emphasized shunning evil, reminding Christians that staying in sin is harmful and living a life without Christ is dangerous. He stressed that many Christians nowadays harbor long-standing hatred, which is detrimental to people’s lives.
He called for reconciliation where there is a need for peace and harmony to prevail in the community. Additionally, he added that God wants all His followers to live in a peaceful society with their fellows.
Bishop Akanjuna also challenged Christians who consider themselves saved yet engage in evil activities like human sacrifice, which are against God’s will and commandments. He noted that as a Christian, assuming earthly riches that are not Godly is not accepted, and such actions are not allowed in Christianity adding that those who do so should turn to God and repent of such evils.
Furthermore, Bishop Akanjuna warned women to desist from alcoholism, citing that women are family managers and therefore should be able to raise children who will benefit in the future. He added that women have neglected their duties of upbringing their children, which has exposed them to negative influences that are degrading the family’s reputation. Hence, he urged parental guidance in shaping the moral compass of children.
