The Rt. Rev. Gaddi Akanjuna, Bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi, has called on church leaders across the diocese to explore additional income-generating projects to support their mission work. Bishop Akanjuna made this appeal during a special prayer service for a newly acquired 29-passenger Coaster bus at the Bishop’s Home in Rugarama Hill, Northern Division, Kabale Municipality.
The Coaster bus, with registration number UBQ 189Y and valued at 170 million shillings, was purchased by St. Luke Butobere Church of Uganda parish in the Archdeaconry of All-Saints Church Kabale. The bus was blessed by Bishop Akanjuna during the service.
In his address, Bishop Akanjuna emphasized the need for the church to be innovative and resourceful in sustaining its mission. “While we should rely on the generosity of our faithful, we must also explore other avenues to generate income that will allow us to reach more people with the message of hope and love,” he stated.
He highlighted that these income-generating projects should be ethical and aligned with the church’s values. Bishop Akanjuna encouraged church leaders to consider ventures such as agricultural projects, small businesses, and other sources of income rather than depending solely on church donations.
