During the Eidul Adhuha celebrations held yesterday in Karegyere Parish, Muko sub-county, Rubanda District, LC5 Chairperson Ampeire Stephen Kasyaba highlighted the importance of catering to minority interests in the district.
Addressing the gathering, Kasyaba expressed his concern over the representation of Muslims in the district, which is predominantly led by Catholic and Protestant leaders. He recalled that upon assuming office, he encountered significant land disputes between Catholic and Muslim communities, with some leaders resorting to derogatory language towards Muslims.
“Our leadership philosophy prioritizes inclusivity, with the slogan ‘minority interests must be catered for,'” Kasyaba stated. He emphasized that Muslims, like all Ugandans, have equal rights and participate in elections. In a move to promote religious equality, the district council, under his leadership, instructed the Muko sub-county council to donate land to Muslims for the construction of a mosque. Kasyaba also announced efforts to secure land titles for Muslim land.

Dr. Haruna Mutabazi, Vice Chairperson for Rubanda Twale, commended Chairman Kasyaba for his unprecedented support for the Muslim community. He noted that previous leaders had marginalized Muslims, deeming them unfit to share public land despite its abundance in Muko sub-county.
“Chairman Kasyaba has included and supported us, and we promise to reciprocate when needed,” Dr. Mutabazi affirmed.
