In a spirit of unity and celebration, the Kabale Muslim Community and the Kabale Media Fraternity came together for a friendly football match at the Kabale Main Stadium yesterday, marking the occasion of EID al-Fitr.

Hundreds of spectators gathered to witness the thrilling encounter, which ended with a 1-0 victory for the Kabale Muslim Community, clinched by a penalty goal from team captain Sheikh Kassim Kamugisha in the 18th minute of the first half.


The match served as a platform not only for sporting camaraderie but also for advocacy, as the Kabale Media Fraternity utilized the opportunity to promote the upcoming World Press Freedom Day event, scheduled for May 3rd at the same venue.

Job Namanya Apuli, Chairperson of the Steering Committee for the Kabale Media Fraternity’s World Press Freedom Day organizing team, emphasized the significance of such events in fostering strong bonds between the Muslim community and the media in the region. He highlighted the edutainment value of the match and its role in mobilizing support for the forthcoming event, which is set to attract media teams from across Kigezi Districts and Sheema district.


Praise Kiwanuka, assistant coach for the Kabale Media Fraternity team, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to engage with the Muslim community, noting that such initiatives contribute to building a robust relationship between the media and the local community.


Sheikh Kassim Kamugisha, captain of the victorious Kabale Muslim Community team, underscored the importance of friendly matches like these in fostering deeper connections between the Muslim community and the wider society, including the media. He called upon stakeholders to actively participate in such activities, emphasizing their role in promoting unity, diversity, and progress in the country.


The EID-friendly football match not only showcased the spirit of sportsmanship but also served as a platform for dialogue, collaboration, and mutual respect between the Muslim community and the media fraternity in Kabale District.
