Two Batwa Players Propel Rubanda’s Kashasha FC to Victory in Hon. Grace Mugabirwe Tournament 2024

Kashasha FC made history by clinching their first-ever championship in the 2024 Hon. Grace Mugabirwe Mutebile Tournament. The electrifying final, held at Muko Playground in Rubanda District, saw Kashasha FC overcome Kacerere FC in a dramatic penalty shootout, winning 4-2 after a 2-2 draw in regular time.

The team’s victory was largely attributed to the standout performances of two Batwa players, Niwamanya Anthlem (known as Saka) and Gordon Aineamani. Aineamani, who scored both the equalizing goal and the decisive penalty, emerged as the hero of the match. Speaking afterward, Aineamani credited the team’s success to hard work and determination and expressed heartfelt gratitude to Hon. Grace Mutebile for her unwavering support in nurturing the talents of the Batwa community and empowering the people of Rubanda District.

The tournament, which commenced on Saturday, November 30th, brought together teams from 17 sub county and town council units across Rubanda District. The event aimed to foster unity, promote youth development, and identify emerging talent in the region. During the inauguration, footballs were distributed to representatives of all participating sub county and town council teams as a gesture to promote the sport at the grassroots level.

Spearheaded by Hon. Grace Mugabirwe Mutebile, an aspiring Woman MP for Rubanda District, the initiative showcased the vibrant talent within the district while highlighting the importance of community development through sports.

Samuel Twijukye, the tournament organizer, praised Hon. Mugabirwe for her pioneering effort, which he described as a milestone for female political aspirants in Greater Kigezi. “This tournament is not just about football; it’s about building bridges between communities, nurturing young talent, and fostering teamwork and discipline among our youth,” he noted. Twijukye also assured participants and spectators of an even more enhanced tournament in the future.

Hon. Grace Mutebile congratulated all participating teams for their commitment and sportsmanship. In her address, she called for unity, hard work, and a collective effort to eradicate sectarianism rooted in culture, religion, and tribalism. “Togetherness is the cornerstone of community progress,” she stated.

The winners and the runners up walked with medals and a cash prizes of One Million and Five hundred thousand Shillings respectively.

The 2024 Hon. Grace Mutebile Tournament not only celebrated sporting excellence but also strengthened the values of unity and development in Rubanda District. As Hon. Mutebile continues her campaign for the 2026 elections, her dedication to initiatives that uplift the community and bring people together remains evident.
